Instant Camera (Polaroid)

Instant Camera (Polaroid)

The first instant camera was called the Polaroid Land Camera Model 95 and it was made available in November 1948. It was called the Land Camera after the inventor Edwin Land. It produced one print a minute in black and white and it used a roll of instant film. To allow this camera to work you had to use a light metre and there was also a setting for exposure. The picture was developed inside the camera and the photographer had to open a small door in the camera to allow the photo to come out.  The most popular instant camera was the Polaroid Model 20 "Swinger” in 1965. It was so popular due to its cheap price and stylish appearance.  Polaroid also went on to make instant movie cameras called Polavision in 1977 but due to the low light sensitivity of the camera the photos were not that good quality. The Polavision wasn’t a success and Polaroid stopped making the camera in 1979.

Even though I don't own a modern Polaroid camera I think they are pretty cool to have as you can get pictures instantly and the camera is retro and funky. I wouldn't buy one though, as they are quite expensive to a modern camera and you can't upload the pictures online like onto facebook/instagram.
